Rene Russo, born in Burbank in California on September 2nd, 1970, to Shirley Balocca a barmaid/factory worker and Nino Russo. The mechanic father of Rene left her when Rene had just turned 2. The mother of Rene was the sole caregiver for Rene. Her father, who was Italian from the Italian-German-English-Irish lineage was her mom. Rene's scoliosis was severe enough that she needed to wear a torso brace for the entire time during her Junior High School years. Jolly Green Giant, her classmates' nickname, came from her because of her tall height. Her first year at Burroughs High School along with her classmate Ron Howard and even though her brace was removed she remained a loner. Rene, unable to cope with the academics and the social activities of the school Rene left school at the end of the 10th grade. To save money the young woman took a string of work-study jobs over 18 months. Many were free. In her position as a waitress in a cinema where she could take advantage of free movies. Also, she worked in eateries where meals were served for free. Additionally, she was employed in Disneyland as a cashier whose admissions are free. At times, she was employed by two jobs. Her only paid position was in an optical facility, where she was responsible in examining the contact lenses.
